General Hospital promises 'surprise return' for John Reilly tribute
General Hospital will honor the late John Reilly’s legacy within the soap world with a special tribute that will feature a ‘surprise return’.
John played Port Charles’ police commissioner Sean Donely in 76 episodes of the beloved US soap opera, first appearing in 1984 and recurring through to 2013.
Executive producer Frank Valentini opened up about the tribute in a statement to TVLine: ‘John Reilly was an incredible actor and a large part of the 58-plus-year legacy that is GH.
‘This episode is meant to honor him and his contribution to the show’s rich history.’
He continued: ‘With so many fan favorites returning, new and longtime viewers will enjoy it. We had a lot of fun filming and I am grateful that we were also able to include his daughter.
‘Viewers will hopefully also enjoy one more surprise return — it is just too amazing to spoil.’
According to Soaps.com, some of the stars slated to return include ‘Kristina Wagner’s Felicia, along with Mac, Anna, Laura, and Kevin – will be “pulled into a mystery involving Sean’s daughter, Annie”.’
It was previously revealed that John’s daughter Caitlin Reilly, who is a successful TiKTok star, will play his character’s on-screen daughter in the show.
However, one person who sadly will not be present is Sharon Wyatt, who played Sean’s wife Tiffany, as the actress – who lives in Tennessee – wasn’t unable to appear.
General Hospital’s tribute episode will be shown on May 21, while the soap airs weekdays on ABC.
