Why was Harlots cancelled?
Sadly, there are just three seasons of Harlots.
The female-led drama starred the likes of Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville, Downtown Abbey’s Jessica Brown-Findlay, Liv Tyler as Lady Isabella Fitzwilliam and The Walking Dead’s Samantha Morton as Margaret Wells.
The third and final season of Harlots aired in August 2019 and fans were devasted when the show came to an end.
According to Deadline, the decision came from Hulu after they decided to focus on original series.
Deadline reported: “The decision arrives as the streamer has added multiple original series as part of its FX on Hulu hub, with originals including Mrs America, Devs and the upcoming The Old Man and A Teacher, as well as a deep roster of library titles.”
Speaking exclusively to The Radio Times and other press, Harlots star Lesley Manville revealed her hopes for the fourth series of Harlots after the BBC release.
She said: “I hadn’t thought of that, I hadn’t thought of that at all.
“We finished season three and I think we all thought that was it.
“You know, there might be [a series renewal]! Let’s start writing the letters now.
“I’d always be interested – obviously I’d be interested, I had nothing but a pleasurable time doing all three series, and it was one of those blissful jobs, so I’d definitely [give] that a lot of consideration but it’s certainly not something that’s been talked about. Maybe you could start a campaign.”
