Piers Morgan is known for being one of the more outspoken names in media. The journalist and TV personality has taken part in a number of feuds throughout his two-decade career of breaking stories and interviewing some of the most prominent celebrities and politicians from around the world. He’s been given pink slips by The Daily Mirror and CNN for issues related to photo scandals and low viewership, via The Guardian. During his time hosting Good Morning Britain, Morgan faced backlash over remarks deemed sexist, racist, or a personal attack on popular public figures, according to the Standard.  

He has used his platforms on television and social media to proudly boast his opposing views on well-known and respected female figures like Greta Thunberg and Meghan Markle. It was his strong stance against Meghan that led to his exit from Good Morning Britain in 2021. He garnered over 40,000 complaints following his public criticism against Prince Harry and Meghan’s televised interview with Oprah Winfrey, via BBC. “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain,” a statement read. “ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.” After losing yet another job, it’s worth looking into how much money the controversial commentator has to keep his life afloat.

Piers Morgan had a hefty salary at ITV

When Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain, the news commentator had a net worth of $20 million with a $2 million annual salary, via Celebrity Net Worth. His earnings have come from past positions as editor at The Daily Mirror, Mail Online, and owner of the Press Gazette and First News. His transition into television included hosting positions on America’s Got Talent and Britain’s Got Talent and winning The Apprentice in 2008. 

He hosted past news programs on ITV and CNN before joining GMB in 2015. It was during his time with ITV in the early 2000s when Morgan raked in $2.6 million a year. All the while, he was busting his chops as a writer and assisted on films like Entourage, Flight, and The Campaign, via IMDb.

Morgan went the real estate route when spending his millions and invested in homes in his native U.K. and in the U.S. Morgan owns two homes in England: a $719,000 Georgian townhouse in London, and a country retreat in his hometown of East Sussex village of Newick, according to Hello! Over in the States, Morgan spends his time at his $5.4 million home in Beverly Hills, Calif., The Sun reports. 

Despite the many ups and downs in his career, Morgan maintains a consistent media presence.
