Our Yorkshire Farm has been following the lives of Amanda and Clive Owen on their farm in Yorkshire as they juggle family life with their nine children with the day to days goings-on at the fields. The Channel 5 show recently returned for its fourth season on April 13, but how did Clive and Amanda meet?
Our Yorkshire Farm is the hit Channel 5 show following the traditional lives of a sheep-farming couple.
The show allows fans to get an understanding of how life on a farm works in the modern-day and shows that it is very much a family business.
The couple have nine children together, all helping any way they can on the farm and ranging from the ages of three to 18.
Amanda and Clive’s relationship started just over 25 years ago.
How did Amanda and Clive meet?
The now husband and wife met in 1996 when Amanda was working as a shepherdess.
Amanda arrived at Clive’s Ravenseat Farm to pick up a ram and what started as just a routine job ended up with the pair hitting it off.
Now the two of them run the farm together, with the help of their nine children.
They married four years after they met in 2000 and the couple have a 21-year age difference between them.
In 2000, Amanda was 25 and Clive was 46, they are now 46 and 66, respectively.
Clive was born in Doncaster with Amanda being born in Huddersfield.
They now run a sheep farm with a flock of over 1,000 sheep.
Clive was married before he met Amanda and has two sons from his previous relationship that are now adults.
On top of them are the nine children he has with Amanda, with some of their children being born at home and even on the roadside.
Their child Clemmie, five, was delivered at home with Amanda by herself with just the family dog for company.
In an interview with Radio Times, Amanda said: “I knew the baby was in the right position, so when I felt the familiar feelings I went downstairs and had the baby in front of the fire with my terrier as a birthing partner.”
She also explained where Clive was during all this, saying: “Clive wasn’t desperate to be at the birth, he was asleep upstairs. I went and woke him up with the baby.”
The couple want to raise their children with limited access to modern technology, making sure their kids can look after themselves.
Amanda said: “I rebuff swaddling children because I want to see them go on and do well and be themselves, whatever that is. I feel like it is their life and all I do is prepare them.”
Our Yorkshire Farm continues Tuesday on Channel 5.
