Kate Garraway frustrated kids can’t see ill Derek as she slams ‘reckless’ Trump

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway opened up about her struggles as her husband Derek still can't be visited by anyone in hospital other than her, despite being in hospital for six months.

His children, Darcey and Billy, who he shares with Kate, and his parents have not been allowed to visit him in hospital since he was admitted back in March.

Speaking about the situation whilst talking about actor Dominic West's comments about US President Donald Trump being diagnosed with coronavirus, Kate admitted it was frustrating.

She revealed that Derek was still not allowed visitors, despite no longer testing positive for the virus, and she thought it "could have real benefits for him" to have his family close to him.

Kate also shared her frustration at the US President after he was discharged from hospital following his diagnosis, branding it "reckless".

Trump's doctor has said that his blood oxygen level dropped suddenly twice in recent days, but he "has continued to improve" since then.

When asked how she felt about, she said: "It is just extraordinary isn't it?"

"When you have been through what you have been through. Given the situation of your family. When you see this recklessness."

Susanna replied: "He's the guy who ought to be setting a role model example to the world, isn't he?"

Kate agreed: "He just doesn't seem to know and he is having all sorts of treatments which people in March and April, when they got sick, didn't have access to. So he is lucky he has built on the learnings of people like Derek."

"You know, it is bewildering."

Meanwhile, Kate shared a message of hope from her husband's hospital ward last night as he remains seriously ill with complications from coronavirus.

Sharing an inspirational message written on a whiteboard, Kate wrote: "Written on a white board on Derek’s ward to spur on staff and patients – not sure if have walked passed it before or its new, but definitely spoke to me today.

"Wonderful words as we brace ourselves for another week in these grim times- see you from 6 a.m on @gmb with a smile."

Derek was hospitalised on March 28, 2020, and has spent his 184th day in and out of intensive care, and is currently in a minimum state of consciousness after being taken out of his medically induced coma.

Good Morning Britain continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
