Last Kingdom season five could definitely be on the cards for Netflix as season four ended with many unanswered questions. One of the new characters introduced to season four was Eadith (played by Stefanie Martini), the sister of Eardwulf (Jamie Blackley). She acted as the mistress of Aethelred (Toby Regbo), and fans are wondering whether she will avenge her brother’s death.

Will Eadith play a major role in avenging Eardwulf’s death?

Stefanie Martini quickly became a fan-favourite in season four after she abandoned her brother to help Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) and his friends.

She and her brother Eardwulf had been conspiring against Aethelred to overthrow him and take his power for themselves.

Eardwulf was acting as Athelred’s military commander, but Aethelred quickly lost faith in him after he relayed a fake message about the Danes’ whereabouts.

Eadith could see how power-hungry her brother was becoming, and she started to turn against him.

Towards the end of the series, Eadith watched in the shadows as her brother killed Aethelred, by snapping his neck.

Eadith abandoned her brother to help Lady of Mercia Aethelflaed (Millie Brady), Uhtred and his friends stayed out of harm’s way.

She travelled with Uhtred and his followers to Winchester, where Uhtred attempted to help King Edward (Timothy Innes) defeat the Viking warlord Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson).

Eadith offered to enter Winchester to find out more information, as she would not be recognised, but she had a nasty surprise when she spotted her brother helping Sigtryggr.

She then watched on in horror as Sigtryggr ordered Eardwulf’s execution, and was forced to pretend not to know him.

Eadith managed to escape the battle which ensues with only minor injuries, but there is a possibility she may avenge Eardwulf’s death.

Eadith was introduced to the cast as one of the main antagonists alongside her brother, but her role changed as she realised the damage she was doing.

After seeing how respectful Uhtred and his friends were towards women, she felt comfortable staying with them.

At the end of the season, she started to form a strong friendship with Finan (Mark Rowley) who helped tend to her wounds after the battle.

But she was visibly upset when her brother was killed under Sigtryggr’s orders, so there is a chance she will want revenge.

If she is to remain one of the main characters in the fifth season, she may become the antagonist once more.

Eadith’s character features in five novels from The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, on which the series is based.

However, she ends up dying of the plague, and in the books, she actually becomes Uhtred’s lover instead of Finan’s.

Fans are hoping she survives in the series as they have taken a liking to her character and would like to see her take on a bigger role.

She has shown both bravery and kindness throughout the fourth season, after she told Aethelred’s men about how her brother killed him.

Eadith had grown attached to both Uhtred and Aethelflaed’s children, and she sacrificed her own brother’s safety to look out for them as they were about to be taken away by Aethelred’s men.

One fan said on Twitter: “Watching Season 4 of #TheLastKingdom – I like Eadith a lot more in the series than I did in the book.”

In season four Eadith also saved Uhtred and his friends after they were left to die at the hands of Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen).

Haesten’s men tied them upside down from a tree, without realising Eadith was watching them from a distance.

She managed to distract his men before killing them and cutting down Uhtred and his friends to free them.

Another fan said on Twitter: “I’m on the second to last episode of The Last Kingdom and all I want is for Eadith to be happy and safe.”

She has certainly proven her strength and bravery in season four, and fans hope she plays a bigger role in a new series, whether it be avenging her brother or not.
