Loki will be the latest live-action Marvel television series to land on Disney+ this summer. The streaming platform has now confirmed when it will be airing – and it might be sooner than you think. Here’s everything you need to know about this and what to expect from the show.
When is Loki released on Disney+?
Now WandaVision is soon coming to an end on Disney+, viewers will be anxious to know when the upcoming Marvel series will be out.
Thankfully they will not be waiting long as Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) will be back as the fan-favourite villain very soon.
He is set to star in the titular series, which will explore what happened to him after Avengers: Endgame.
Disney released a trailer for the show at the end of 2020, which left fans desperate to know when it would be out.
Now it has been confirmed the show will be beginning on the platform on Wednesday, June 11.
The news was announced by star Tom Hiddleston in a brand new video, where he stated “Fridays are the new Wednesdays.”
As is the way with Disney+ shows, new episodes of the series will be air every Wednesday following this premiere date.
In total, there will be six episodes for fans to enjoy of the Marvel spin-off.
Loki: Tom Hiddleston announces release date
However, very little has been released about the plot of the new series yet.
The official synopsis simply reads: “Loki features the God of Mischief as he steps out of his brother’s shadow in a new series that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame.”
Despite his character’s death in the current timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, viewers will remember how he was brought back in Avengers: Endgame.
This came when the Avengers had to travel back in time in order to find the Infinity Stones.
Their quest took them back to the events of the 2012 film The Avengers when Loki was taken prisoner by the team.
However, things turned out a little differently this time as Loki stole the Tesseract and disappeared from Stark Towers.
The new television series will explore what happened after this moment as Loki finds himself at a mysterious facility.
In the trailer, he wakes up in the desert somewhere before being taken to an organisation called the TVA where he is held prisoner.
He then is seen in a selection of mysterious situations, including skydiving off a plane before beaming up to Asgard using the Bifröst.
His final words in the trailer are: “Brother, Heimdall, you better be ready.”
The cast of the new series has mostly been confirmed with a whole host of stars joining Hiddleston.
He is joined by Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E Grant.
The series is directed by Kate Herron and written by Michael Waldron.
The stars have also been quiet about what will happen in the show but Wilson recently gave some hints on The Jess Cagle Show.
He revealed how Hiddleston gave him a crash course in everything he needed to know about Loki.
Wilson said: “For a couple of days, [he] walked me through everything and the whole lore and showing me clips from the other movies and how it all fed into this story.”
“So, it was really kind of Tom telling me about it and telling me about his character.
“And even in the way sometimes that he would describe his character, it was useful for me, because my character Mobius in Loki is kind of interviewing him at some point. So, it kind of worked doing it that way.”
Loki is released on Disney+ on Wednesday, June 9
