The Met Gala is no stranger to welcoming some of the wildest and most wonderful wardrobe choices any red carpet across the globe has ever seen.
From Kim Kardashian’s wearing of Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday, Mr President” dress to Princess Diana’s 1996 outing in a John Galliano-designed number, onlookers have been treated to some iconic moments on the red carpet.
However, in the past few years, a number of famous faces have left heads turning for all the wrong reasons when it comes to their style choices.
Express.co.uk has compiled five of the most talked-about outfits from recent years which didn’t exactly garner the fanfare the respective celebs may have expected.
And starting in 2016, there was one star who certainly had everyone talking as they bared plenty – Madonna.
2016 – Madonna
Madonna has heads turning back in 2016 when she wore a bondage-inspired Givenchy number.
Complete with cut-outs around her backside and breast, the Like A Virgin hitmaker left many gobsmacked.
However, Madonna defended her outfit at the time as she said on Instagram was a “political statement as well as a fashion statement”.
2018 – Sarah Jessica Parker
Sex and the City star SJP donned Dolce & Gabbana for her appearance at the 2018 event.
Parker wore a gilded gold gown complete with red heart accents, a lengthy train and an eye-catching jewelled crown.
2019 – Katy Perry
American Idol judge Perry left onlookers with their jaws on the floor more than once at the 2019 Met Gala.
She took to the red carpet in a less-than-conventional chandelier dress, designed by Moschino designer Jeremy Scott.
However, she kept the attention all on her at the after-party as well when she decided to dress as a hamburger.
2022 – Kylie Jenner
The Kardashians star Jenner provided a twist on a conventional wedding dress last year.

However, the bridal look hit an odd note as she completed it with a backwards baseball cap.
The wedding gown was a nod and tribute to Off-White’s founder, the late Virgil Abloh.
2022 – Emily Ratajkowski
Model Ratajkowski caught the eye for perhaps the wrong reasons in 2022 in her Versace number.
The eclectic mix of coloured beads left little to the imagination alongside a rainbow-coloured skirt.
