New Aadi actor gave co-star a huge surprise when he arrived at Corrie

It will take a little while for viewers to get used to the fact that Adam Hussain is the new actor to play Aadi Alahan in Coronation Street – but one person who is already familiar with working with him is his co-star Tanisha Gorey, who plays twin sister Asha.

However, despite Adam being a part of her real-life friendship group, Tanisha had no idea that he was turning up to play her sibling until he physically arrived on set to surprise her.

Speaking exclusively to, Tanisha laughed: ‘I knew Adam previously – we went to the same college and so we have mutual friends and have been out a few times.

‘He didn’t tell me, he just walked in to surprise me and I was like “Oh my god what are you doing, why would you do that!?” We get on really well so that really helps with our bond on screen.’

His arrival comes at a time when Tanisha is at the centre of a hard hitting plot that sees her trust broken when her nudes are leaked online.

On taking on the storyline, the actress mused: ‘I wouldn’t say I was intimidated – I felt more proud that they looked to me to be responsible for such a thing.

‘Obviously it’s a challenging one so I was a little timid about how it would play out but more proud that they thought they thought I could do it justice.

‘My skin lightening story was my first big one and it was one to push me a bit to show what I could do. We got really good feedback on that so for my first story, that meant so much. And then they threw me straight into this one – I feel such validation and grateful to be held responsible for taking it on.’

And as Asha’s story goes on, Tanisha reveals that she is glad to be learning more about her character and seeing her develop.

She smiled: ‘I have been her for so long but we’re completely different people. I havent been through anything remotely close so it’s a journey for me. So I am watching it along with the audience and it’s amazing thing to watch her character grow and develop and see how she reacts as it is just as new for me as it is for her. It’s a big stage of her life, what she is going through.

‘It’s got a few stories behind it, I think. It’s happening in my generation and once something is out there, it’s always going to be there whether you’re going for a job – you can’t get rid of it.

‘But also, some of our audience are older and it’s good for them to see it’s actually happening as many don’t realise what happens in the lives of young people now. This is a way of showing all generations what the consequences of social media can be.’

Tanisha added: ‘I think it’s good that we have some gritty storylines and we need to explore the whole person – not everyone just walks through life. But I would love to see her blossom because before the skin bleaching story, she was just there, we didn’t really know what was going on inside.

‘I’d love the audience to watch her grow and gain some self confidence. She knows just as much about herself as the audience do – so I’d like her to learn about herself and find herself in this world that feels crazy for her.’

And Tanisha has no plans to step away from Corrie – in fact she can’t wait to get back once lockdown ends.

She enthused: ‘I love it, I would not change it for the world I am missing work so much right now. I love it, it’s the best thing.’
