RHOC Vicki Gunvalson says she was ‘misunderstood’ despite continuing to double down on claims businesses need to reopen – The Sun
VICKI Gunvalson has defended her plea to get small business owners reopening by May 1 amid the coronavirus crisis.
After intense backlash to her comments, the RHOC star insisted she'd been "misunderstood" – before doubling down on her claims that people need to get back to work.
Vicki had tweeted California governor Gavin Newsom on Monday: "Let’s get America who is healthy back to work.
"We need hairdressers, nail techs, small business’s and restaurants to start reopening May 1st. Please?"
One follower responded: "Vicki wants to 'WHOOP IT UP' while people are dying. Nice"
Vicki replied: "Nope, reread this again. I said nothing about whooping it up.
"I said we need to get back to work. Been in quarantine for 2 months as I’m sure you have."
Discussing her comments, Vicki told The Hollywood Gossip: "I see that I’m getting attacked for it and I don’t think people understand where I’m coming from whatsoever.
"People who work at (and own) restaurants, people who do hair, nails, etc, and small business owners, as well, cannot work from home."
The Bravo star went on: "They are losing their shirts financially every single day and the risk factor is huge."
Vicki then insisted she's "not undermining" the danger of coronavirus, calling the deadly bug a "legitimate concern".
Vicki was slammed for her comments about businesses reopening earlier this week.
One user tweeted: "This is idiotic thinking of the self centered.
"The curve has just begun to flatten and you want us to go back to where we were a month ago. like getting to the middle of a video game and going back to start.
"Any progress made will be lost and prolong the hope of normalcy.
Others added: "Good thing you're not in charge dim whit."
Vicki's comments follow her own daughter, Briana, having a coronavirus scare last month.
She ultimately tested negative for the disease but still quarantined after coming down with symptoms.
Briana, a nurse at a North Carolina hospital, texted her husband, Ryan: "I started coughing bad at work this morning and was short of breath.
"They put me on a 14-day quarantine and sent me home. I have to call occupational health in the morning to follow up and see what's next.
"No fever yet but I have chills. I'm going to sleep upstairs and probably will have to stay away from you guys as much as possible until I know more."
Ryan posted on Instagram when she got the all clear from the disease: "The tests came back negative!!!
"Thank you everyone for your kind words and messages."
In more happy news for the family, Briana also recently announced she's expecting her third child.
Ryan and Briana already have sons Troy, 7, and Owen, 5.
Ryan posted: “With all the bad news going on in the world hopefully this brings a smile to your face (even if it’s behind a mask). November can’t come soon enough!”
Earlier this month, Vicki revealed she was forced to postpone her upcoming wedding to retired police officer Steve Lodge due to the pandemic.
She shared on Instagram: "I have called off the wedding."
Vicki told People: "I'm not in the right mindset."
The Bravolebrity added she and Steve are in "no rush to get down the aisle right now."
