'RHONY': Ramona Singer Thinks the Majority of the Cast Has a Drinking Problem
Although she’s enjoyed a few cocktails with the cast, Ramona Singer from The Real Housewives of New York City thinks she is one of the few cast members who has her drinking under control.
In the latest episode, Dorinda Medley tries to summon Singer to dinner after putting Sonja Morgan to bed following one too many strong drinks. Luann de Lesseps and Leah McSweeney wait at the table as tensions mount. When Medley finds Singer on a lounge chair, Singer asks if she is okay. Medley shares that Morgan was a mess, but Singer returns by telling Medley she’s been a mess too.
“No, I have not,” Medley says. “You’ve been a mess like that and I’ve helped you in it. And I’ve never called you out.” Medley says in a confessional she tried to have a discussion with Singer but instead Singer finds every opportunity to “schadenfreude” her. In an earlier episode, the group discussed the concept of “schadenfreude” which is when an individual takes pleasure in witnessing another person’s sadness or misfortune.
Ramona Singer tells Dorinda Medley that she and Sonja Morgan need AA
Medley becomes frustrated with Singer and walks away. “You’re the one who has a drinking problem, you and Sonja,” Singer says to Medley with a smile on her face. “You should both go to AA [Alcoholics Anonymous].”
Medley walks away but is later seen in tears, telling McSweeney she’s hurt that Singer insists she has a drinking problem. Medley and some of the other cast members have come down hard on Singer this season for her self-centered behavior, which includes ghosting friend Elyse Slaine.
“There’s a difference between telling someone like, ‘Hey I’m concerned about you’ and then saying, ‘You need to go to AA’,” McSweeney says in a confessional. “Which is obviously a totally patronizing, nasty thing to say to somebody.”
Ramona Singer insists she and Luann de Lesseps are the only sober ones in the group
“Ramona should know by now if you’re gonna play with fire you’re gonna get burned,” de Lesseps says in a confessional. So de Lesseps goes off to talk to Singer. Before de Lesseps can start the discussion, Singer tells her she’s drinking water. “Because I don’t want to end up like some of these other girls that we’re around, not mentioning names,” Singer says to de Lesseps.
“I feel like you and I are the only ones who are straight,” Singer insists. Instead of agreeing with her, de Lesseps points out that Singer hurt Medley. “Dorinda you know how she gets if you talk about drinking,” de Lesseps says. “She says you told her to go to AA.”
Singer blurts out that Medley got her “pissed off” but then says, “Actually I think she should go to AA. She drinks way too much.” In a confessional, Singer admits she isn’t sure if Medley should go to AA but instead she should lay off of her. “Stop name-calling and saying Sonja has a problem when obviously you have a bit of a problem yourself,” Singer insists.
Singer insists the cast has a drinking problem
Singer then doubles down on her assertion that she just drinks water and is home by midnight. “I don’t know, I’m not babysitting you,” de Lesseps says looking doubtful. “God, I can’t keep up with you.”
Although de Lesseps tries to get Singer to stop attacking Medley for drinking, Singer won’t let it go. “I’m sorry, she has a drinking problem,” Singer exclaims. “And Sonja, a problem too. And Leah, a problem too. You know what? That’s why I don’t even want to drink anymore.” By this time de Lesseps looks exhausted with the conversation. But Singer goes back to insisting that Medley likes to play “holier than thou.”
