The team's founding members are John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Madame Xanadu, Shade and Changing Man.

Abrams' production company Bad Robot will also be producing a series inspired by Stephen King's The Shining.

Overlook is described as a horror-thriller series that "explores the untold stories of the Overlook Hotel, the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction".

He's also producing original drama Duster alongside The Walking Dead writer LaToya Morgan.

It's set in the 1970s American Southwest and revolves around the life of a getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate.

On the announcements, chief content officer at HBO Max said on Thursday: "What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie.

"What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic IP from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max."
