Appearing on The One Show on Wednesday, Spider-Man: No Way Home actor Tom Holland, 25, recalled an awkward moment when Benedict Cumberbatch demanded his pooch be taken off the set of a film. He told BBC audiences how he had apologised to Cumberbatch, who had been trying to stay in character.
The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating had been talking about dogs and how the guests on the show were all dog-lovers.
“Tom, you have a dog. Do you take your dog on set?” Ronan asked.
“I do sometimes take her on set,” the actor replied. “Obviously, I don’t travel with her, but if I’m in London she’ll come to set.
“I remember I took her once, I was shooting this film called A Current War, with Benedict Cumberbatch.
“It was a very serious movie about the invention of the lightbulb.
“And we were shooting this sequence which was supposed to be in a field, but we shot it in a sound stage.
“Benedict was giving this massive speech to about 100 extras, and Tess was so well behaved, I can have her on set.
“She never barks, she doesn’t make a noise.
“And I’m sitting there watching Benedict and he’s crying and he’s, you know, giving his heart and soul into this performance.
“And my dog obviously has some sort of hay intolerance or something.
“You know how dogs sneeze with, like, every fibre in their body?
“She was just sneezing and sneezing, and you can see Benedict trying to stay in character, trying to stay with it.
“And then eventually he was like, ‘can someone take that dog out of here please?’
“And I was like ‘I’m so sorry Benny, that’s my dog’. But she was fine, she was all good!”
“Oh bless,” Ronan laughed. He added: “Sadly we’re not here to talk about dogs, or we could all day.
“You’ve got a brand new blockbuster called Uncharted, in cinemas a week on Friday.
“It is so good, I absolutely loved it.”
Also on the BBC show was Tom’s Unchartered co-star Mark Wahlberg, as well as hit screenwriter Richard Curtis.
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
