Following a six year hiatus, Top Boy came back after it was revived with the support of rapper Drake. Season three came out last year on Netflix and saw the original cast return with Dushane (played by Ashley Waters) and Sully (Kano) leading the way as they try and become the biggest drug dealers in London. Thankfully, the series won’t be ending any time soon as it has already been confirmed for a fourth season.

At the beginning of the year, Top Boy was named as one of the most popular series on Netflix of 2019 on Instagram account GRM Daily.

Along with a link to the article, the caption read: “Will we see a new series in 2020?”

Drake himself then responded to the post saying “Of course”, confirming there would be a fourth series.

Unfortunately for fans of the drama, like many television shows, there has been a delay.

When is the new series of Top Boy out?

Season four was expected to air later on this year but as the country has been in lockdown for the past four months, this will no longer be the case.

Casting Director for Top Boy Des Hamilton spoke to Express.co.uk and other media publications after winning a BAFTA Television Craft Award for scripted casting on Friday, July 17.

When Express.co.uk asked Hamilton about a release date for series four, he said: “I think everybody’s being cautious but at the same time quietly optimistic.”

Hamilton continued: “I think people are hoping that we shoot this year.

“I can’t speak for the producers but that’s me, what I hear.

“I personally think we’ll shoot this year, I think we’ll be on set, shoot scenes.

“I don’t know how it will transfer from that but I do think cameras will roll on Top Boy and east London this year, towards the end of this year, I hope.”

With filming potentially starting at the end of 2020, fans may not see the fourth season on our screens until late 2021.

If the end of season three is anything to go by though, season four will be worth the wait.

Dushane visited his enemy Jamie (Micheal Ward) in prison, telling him he had the “right idea” all along.

He then said he wanted to work with Jamie so they could become the biggest suppliers in London, even offering to help Jamie get out of prison.

Dushane hacked into Jamie’s CCTV and saw the footage which proved the green bag was not his but Atticus’ (Keiyon Cook), proving the wrong person was behind bars.

But it seems like Dushane is going to have to watch his back more than ever as the two drug dealers Sarah (Isla Jackson-Ritchie) and Lee (Josef Altlin) were revealed to be undercover officers.

They had been investigating Dushane and his drug network, waiting for the perfect moment to catch him out.

At the end of the episode, talking about Dushane, the female officer said: “This guy shouldn’t be on our streets. He should be inside for the rest of his life.”

So will Jamie get out of prison and Dushane take his place as he is finally caught?
