What is Britbox and how do I get it on my TV?

BRITBOX, a British streaming service with Britain's finest shows available to watch at the touch of a button.

The service will see television giants BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 join forces, with a collection of "the nation's favourite programmes".

What is Britbox and how much does it cost?

BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 have partnered up to launch a new streaming service called Britbox.

The UK broadcasters have confirmed they are joining forces in a bid to rival streaming giant Netflix.

BritBox creators say the service will host the largest collection of British boxsets – and cost £5.99.

ITV chief Carolyn McCall has described the launch as a "milestone moment".

"Subscription video on demand is increasingly popular with consumers who love being able to watch what they want when they want to watch it," she said, in a statement.

"They are also happy to pay for this ease of access to quality content and so BritBox is tapping into this, and a new revenue stream for UK public service broadcasters."

How do I get Britbox on my TV?

Before fans can enjoy all the shows available on the streaming platform, fans must first register for a BritBox subscription.

To do this, all you need to do is visit the BritBox website and select Register at the top and fill in the forms.

Subscribers are only able to access Britbox on their television if they have a Samsung Smart TV.

If so, you can then get BritBox by pressing the Smart Hub button on your TV remote and selecting Apps and scroll through the apps available to install until you find Britbox, which you can then download and sign in.

However, if you don't have a Samsung TV, you are still able to access your Britbox on the TV if have a Apple TV box connected, which Apple TV, users can download and install the app from the store.

Why are viewers angry?

BBC viewers have slammed their new service Britbox – as they'll be paying TWICE to watch the shows.

The corporation announced today that they were teaming up with ITV to launch a streaming service that'll rival Netflix in the UK.

To access the service, punters will need a paid subscription – even though BBC content is funded by the licence payer.

They're not happy, taking to Twitter to vent their frustration.

One wrote: "@Ofcom so sorry, let me get this clear… have the @bbcpress been using our money to fund and create a premium TV service they now expect us to pay for?"

Another said: "Paying for content that I’ve already paid for via the TV licence is an interesting concept!"

What shows are on Britbox?

Spitting Image

Spitting Image is a British satirical television puppet show which was very popular throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

The show pokes fun at some of the world's biggest names in pop culture, politics and sport.

The likes of Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Dominic Cummings, Beyoncé and Greta Thunberg will feature in the program.

A release date has been set for October 3.

Downton Abbey

All episodes of the popular period drama are now available to stream now on Britbox.

Set back  in 1912, the Crawley family and their servants inhabit the Yorkshire country estate of Downton Abbey.

Fans will see how famous events rock the family over the course of the series.

The film adaptation of Downton Abbey recently dominated the box office both in the UK and abroad.

Only Fools and Horses

The sitcom is one of the most iconic shows the BBC has ever produced and remains a firm favourite decades after it originally aired in 1981.

The fan favourite show is remembered for both its hilarious jokes and occasionally emotional moments.

All seven series of the show are available to stream on Britbox.

Gavin & Stacey

Created by James Corden and Ruth Jones, Gavin & Stacey tells the charming story of a boy from Essex (Matthew Horne) and a girl from Barry Island (Joanna Page).

The pair fall in love and follows the highs and lows of their sometimes up and down relationship.

James and Ruth also co-star as the unlikely pairing Smithy and Nessa, alongside a cast that also includes Larry Lamb, Alison Steadman and Rob Brydon.

Midsomer Murders

The long-running murder-mystery series is a genuine British institution, so it's only right that it has its place on the British streaming service.

All 20 series of the show are available to swatch on the streaming platfor.

It is also includes two never-before-seen episodes that are making their world premiere on the service.
