AOC says $1,200 payments ‘not enough’ for New Yorkers

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted the Trump administration and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, saying that the one-time payments to Americans as part of the massive coronavirus economic stimulus package were “not enough.”

“I’m telling you right now, and as you probably already know, $1,200 in New York City is not enough,” the congresswoman said during an Instagram Live Q/A session Thursday night.

“We fought for recurring payments. In fact, what we fought for was $2,000 per person, in addition to more monthly, recurring payments,” she said. “And again, the Trump Administration and Mitch McConnell’s Senate and the Republicans refused, absolutely refused to entertain the idea of recurring payments.”

AOC was among the most notable critics of the coronavirus stimulus bill when it reached the House last week, urging the federal government to pass even more far-reaching measures.
