BRITAIN will come “charging back” as a country once the lockdown is over, Boris Johnson has predicted.

The PM will this week unveil his timescale for a return towards normal life and said each step would be taken carefully.

He told The Sun: “I said that we’d turn the tide within three months and we are definitely on course to do that.

“We’re past the peak. We’ll be into the second phase very soon and we’ll just have to work hard to get every step right.”

He added: “Mountaineers always say that it’s coming down from the peak that’s the most dangerous bit because that’s when you’re over-confident and make mistakes.

“We’ve got to be careful we don’t run, lose control and hit a much bigger peak. But I’m optimistic.

“The UK has the most incredibly dynamic and amazingly resilient economy.

“We can come out of this very strongly but it all depends on everybody playing their part.”

Election pledges will not be blown off course

The PM has vowed his election pledges will not be blown off course.

He insists he is more determined than ever to  “level up” Britain.

Mr Johnson said the Covid-19 war is spurring him on to go further, faster, to provide new roads, railways, schools, hospitals, broadband and technology to the nation.

Boris declared: “This government remains absolutely dedicated to unite and level up our country.

“We have lost none of our resolve.

“We are going to deliver every single one of the things that we said we would do in the general election campaign.

“We are not going to be blown off course by this.

“On the contrary we’re going to double down.”

Mr Johnson is convinced events of the past months will unite the public.

He said: “I’ve never seen a country come together like this. I’ve never seen a national resolve like it.

“There are opportunities to get on with things in terms of infrastructure.

“We should be getting on with it and we shall.”
