SALES of alcohol have been banned in some countries as the fight against coronavirus continues across the world.

But will booze be banned in the UK and where can you buy from online? We explain.

Where has alcohol sales been banned?

Greenland, South Africa and Aisne , a region in Northern France all banned the sale of alcohol.

South Africa has also banned the sale of cigarettes as well as walking down the road for exercise.

The local government in France is believed to have reversed the ban while it consults experts.

What are the rules in the UK?

Supermarkets, corner shops and off-licences are allowed to stay open under rules in the UK.

The shops are allowed to sell whatever stock they want.

But some may prioritise essential household items like loo roll or food in order to help shoppers.

Where can you buy alcohol from online?

Of course you can order from supermarkets but with slots sold out online for weeks in advance you may have to try elsewhere.

Naked Wines has also stopped taking new orders temporally due to demand from shoppers.

It's worth checking a delivery app like Deliveroo or Just Eat to see if a local wine shop or off licence has partnered with them to deliver supplies.

Amazon has plenty of stock – but you may have to wait for delivery.

While Honest Brew and Virgin Wines are still taking orders they warn there is up to a seven day wait for delivery.

Majestic Wine promises delivery within 14 days due to high demand.
