Chinese Zodiac Signs: What is a Metal Snake and what year is it?
WHILE many people know what their star sign is in Western astrology, they may not have any idea where they fall in the Chinese zodiac.
And the animal that your birthday matches up with can tell you a lot about your personality.
The classification system splits everyone up into animal signs based on what year they were born, according to the lunar calendar.
The signs include the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog and the Pig – and the cycle repeats every 12 years, with the Snake taking sixth place.
Depending when your birthday falls, your 'animal' can also fall within one of five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – with each showing different characteristics and personality traits.
So, what exactly is the 'Metal Snake' zodiac sign, which years does it fall in, and what does it represent?
What year is the Metal Snake?
Anyone with the Snake sign is thought to have a deep and complex mind, while the sign itself is associated with the hours 9-11 in the morning.
If you were born between January 27, 1941, and February 14, 1942, you were born in the year of the Metal Snake.
You also fall into this category if you were born between January 24, 2001, and February 11, 2002.
Other years of the Snake
People born within these date ranges can be said to have been born in the 'Year of the Snake' more generally: 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013, and 2025.
Celebrities that fall into the Snake category include Robert Downey Jr (Wood), Kanye West (Fire) and, ironically, his 'frenemy' Taylor Swift – who is an 'Earth Snake'.
Characteristics and personality traits of the Metal Snake
Metal Snakes are born winners, quite ruthless and are as tough as a well-worn pair of hobnail boots. There’s no questioning the potential brilliance of this character.
The Metal Snake is frighteningly ambitious, hard as nails and will absolutely succeed.
They are inconsistent, difficult to get to know and give very little away but at the same time a charmer.
They have so many strings attached to their bow, we minions may have a tendency to look on enviously.
Types of Snakes
In Chinese element theory, each zodiac sign is associated with one of the five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Gold (Metal) and Water.
Metal Snake: Determined, courageous, confident, and able: a born leader.
Water Snake: Clever, creative, lively, and communicative, but sentimental.
Wood Snake: Orderly, intelligent, with a gift for appreciating the knowing celebrities and a refined taste.
Fire Snake: Smart, insightful, communicative, active, and fond of the limelight.
Earth Snake: Calm, with strong self-control, but not steadfast and diligent enough in work.
According to the Chinese New Year site, the snake is most compatible with the Monkey, Rooster and Ox.
Of those, the most compatible pair are the Monkey and the Snake who "have similar personalities, but one is yin and the other is yang. Therefore, they can reach harmony".
While the Snake and Rooster seem very different, they too are surprisingly compatible – with the Rooster’s "ability and taste" attracting a Snake in particular.
Meanwhile, they also apparently fit well with Oxen, with a Snake giving Oxen "warmth and romance", while receiving "a reliable anchor in return".
