The 16th century 5,464sqft, Grade II listed mansion was owned by Australian author and film producer James Clavell between 1970 and 1990.

Fredley Manor was owned by author, screenwriter, director and producer James Clavell between 1970 and 1990. Clavell was a favourite and friend of James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore, who regularly visited the house

Clavell authored the screenplays for The Great Escape and The Fly and also directed the Sidney Poitier classic To Sir, With Love.

He was most famous for his work as a novelist, authoring the Asian Saga series, which Bond star Sir Roger Moore was a fan of.

Sir Roger told The Independent: ‘I love James Clavell for his accuracy of detail in all his work. 

‘He became a friend of mine and I acquired the rights to Tai-Pan with a view to producing a film.’

Clavell’s manor parties included the Bond actor as well as JR Ewing, the star of Dallas as Larry Hagman. 

Fredley Manor was originally a cottage on the Fredley Manor estate and was sold many times between 1571 and 1803.

Between 1797 and 1835 London hatter Richard Sharp entertained politicians and poets at the house, including Sir Walter Scott, William Wordsworth and Samuel Coleridge.

Despite its secluded location, the property has excellent links to London via the A24, and is just a short distance from Sandown, Epsom, Kempton, Ascot and Goodwood
