Ah, home sweet home! If you’ve recently moved into a new apartment or home, it can be both an exciting and a stressful time. That’s especially true if you’re someone who doesn’t like shelling out lots of money on home items.
When it comes to stocking your kitchen with essential items, one of my favorite buys is Spicewalla’s Kitchen Essentials Spice Set, which comes with every spice basic recipes call for. But don’t just take it from me — this Spicewalla set also topped Oprah’s Favorite Things List in 2019.

The set inclues 18 different spices and seasonings, including garlic, Kashmiri chili powder, crushed red pepper, cinnamon powder, smoked paprika, cumin seed, oregano, rosemary, cloves, turmeric, granulated onion, dark chili powder, ground yellow mustard, green cardamom powder, coriander seed, herbs de Provence, fennel seed and ground ginger.
Not only do Oprah and I both love that this set includes the starter spices most kitchens need, but each spice is roasted, ground and packed in decorative tins by the master of spices himself. Meherwan Irani, a four-times James Beard-nominated chef and restauranteur, uses recipes passed down by his grandmother to create Spicewalla spices.
One of Spicewalla’s main missions is to produce its spices in small batches. The company orders whole spices in small quantities, ensuring they don’t sit in a warehouse and go stale. Instead, the blends are all handmade in Ashville, North Carolina.
Not only is the spice quality better than the spices you’ll see at a grocery store, but they’re also gluten-free, non-GMO, kosher, keto and paleo friendly and made without any artificial flavors.
While you can buy the spices individually, you’re saving more by investing in the set. The spices shake out to be $5 each in the set versus their standard $9.99 price on Amazon.
For your next (virtual) housewarming party, sending your friends (or yourself!) a Spicewalla set is the ultimate welcome-home gift.
