Trump tweets ‘STOP THE COUNT!’ as election results still being tallied

President Trump declared “STOP THE COUNT!” as a number of states continue to tally ballots on Thursday — two days after the election — and his reelection campaign has filed lawsuits to halt the count.

About an hour later he addressed the vote again in another all-caps post.

“ANY VOTE THAT CAME IN AFTER ELECTION DAY WILL NOT BE COUNTED!,” he said.

The president’s tweets on Thursday morning come as mail-in ballots are still being tabulated in Pennsylvania, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska, but Trump fell behind Democratic challenger Joe Biden in the chase to lock in the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the White House.

Biden has 264 votes to Trump’s 214.

The states are legally counting mail-in and absentee ballots that were postmarked on time.

More than 100 million votes were cast by mail this year because of fears over the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump’s reelection campaign filed lawsuits or took legal action in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia over the vote count.

Biden got a big boost in the Electoral College when Michigan, which has 16 electoral votes, and Wisconsin, with 10 electoral votes, were declared for the former vice president.

On Wednesday, Trump referred to mail-in votes as “ballot dumps” and suggested that election workers were making hundreds of thousands of votes “disappear.”

“Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted,” the president wrote on Twitter. “VERY STRANGE, and the ‘pollsters’ got it completely & historically wrong!”
