An employee at an Alabama plant fatally shot two people and wounded two others early Tuesday, police and company officials said.

The gunfire at the Mueller Company plant in Albertville broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, WAAY reported, citing a company spokesman.

Two people were killed while two others were rushed to a hospital for treatment, according to the report.

The gunman then fled the scene in a vehicle, WAFF reported.

Detectives were processing the scene and working to identify the gunman and his whereabouts, the station reported.

None of the victims were immediately identified.

Albertville Police Chief Jamie Smith told WHNT more details will be provided at a press conference later Tuesday.

Mueller, a manufacturing company that produces fire hydrants and other water distribution products, has 11 plants across the country. Its Albertville location employs roughly 500 people, WHNT reported.

Millions of fire hydrants have been produced at the facility in the past 45 years, leading the city to become known as the “Fire Hydrant Capital” of the world, according to the station.
