Who is Kamala Harris' husband Douglas Emhoff?

Douglas Emhoff, 55, is the husband of presumptive Democratic vice presidential nominee and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to California as a teenager.

Like his wife, he is also a lawyer.

Emhoff is currently a California attorney and partner at the firm DLA Piper, where he works based out of Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

“He represents large domestic and international corporations and some of today’s highest profile individuals and influencers in complex business, real estate and intellectual property litigation disputes,” according to his biography on DLA Piper’s website.

His accomplishments include "representing the rights holders of a famous animated character in copyright and trademark disputes," and the defense of a "prominent former NFL and Olympic athlete in a civil action brought by the SEC."

Emhoff’s Twitter bio describes himself as a “dad, (Harris) hubby, lawyer, wannabe golfer, advocate for justice and equality".

The couple reportedly met on a blind date after a set up by a close friend of Harris.

When did Kamala and Douglas get married?

Emhoff and Harris were married in a Santa Barbara courthouse in August of 2014, when Harris was California’s attorney general.

Harris’ sister, Maya, officiated over the wedding, which followed a five-month engagement, according to Sacramento Bee.

The couple wrote their own vows, and to recognise Emhoff's Jewish faith, the two honoured a tradition of breaking a glass.

This August 22 will mark their six-year wedding anniversary.

Does Douglas have children?

Emhoff and Harris have no children together, although Emhoff has two children, Cole and Ella, from a previous marriage.

According to a March 2018 Vogue article, his son Cole is a graduate of Colorado College, while his younger daughter Ella studies at Parsons School of Design.

How has he been involved in his wife's campaign?

On January 21 of 2019, Harris announced her intention to run against Trump in the 2020 elections vowing to "bring our voices together".

However despite a promising start, she dropped out of the race in December 2019, blaming a lack of funds.

Emhoff appeared on the campaign trail numerous times to support his wife.

He even protected his wife against an animal rights activist who rushed the stage on June 1 while she was speaking at the MoveOn Big Ideas Forum.

Emhoff jumped up to the platform to help drag the protester away.

Harris was revealed as Biden's pick on August 11.

If his wife is elected and inaugurated, Emhoff would become the first Second Gentleman of the United States.

As of August 2019, Harris and her husband had an estimated net worth of $5.8 million, as reported by Forbes.
